There are few images that say “America” like the Bald Eagle. Although it’s not uncommon to see them around here, I never tire of it. I photographed this one just a few miles from where I live. And to think that Benjamin Franklin wanted the turkey as the national bird!

The Bohemian Waxwing (Bombycilla garulus) is a unique looking bird that gets its name (Bohemian) from its nomadic winter behavior. They are not common birds at feeders, and don’t seem to stay in one place long, so I was very thankful to get this shot. Click on the photo for a larger image.

About ten minutes from where I live there are a couple of bald eagles wintering in the cottonwoods along the river. I recently photographed them while elk hunting. They really are magnificent creatures. And to think Benjamin Franklin wanted the turkey for the national bird!

I have a great interest in all most things wild, and when I can, I try to get some photos. I may start using the weekend to post some of those shots (thus making it a “Wild Weekend”). Here’s a photo I took of one my frequent backyard birds, the Oregon Junco.
